Sunshine and rain were alternating during the World Championship Super-ICC and the European Championship in Junior, which was taking place last week-end in Sarno, near Napoli.
While the category Super-ICC was lucky to finish all their heats in dry conditions, the Juniors had rain tyres for their last heat and fortunately the few rain-drops falling down in their final, were not able to wet the track.
Category Junior
Rudy van Buren and David Mengesdorf reached the final without any problems, thanks to good finishes through their heats.
Van Buren even won his 3rd heat in an intelligent race with regularely fast laps on the wet track. Due to his results he qualified 8 in the intermediate classification and started in line 4 in the prefinale.
David Mengesdorf showed a good achievement too by qualifying 12 after all the heats.
In the prefinale he won 7 places and crossed the finishing line in 5th place.
Rudy was not able to show his good performance from the heats and fell back on place 19. Both drivers were fully motivated to start in the final with the goal to finish high up. After the first few laps David Mengesdorf was on the third place, when he was passed by a competitor and pushed out in the grass he lost a lot of important positions. In the end David had a crash in the last lap and the dream of a podium place was over.
Rudy van Buren showed a good mount of determination and was able to make up 12 places by coming in 7th at the end of the race.
Category Super-ICC
Mixed feelings for Pierre Ragues and Manuel Renaudie in category Super-ICC.
The combination SWISS HUTLESS – SGM emerged as very competitiv what the drivers were prooving with very fast lap times. During the second heat they were doing the fastest and second fastest lap-time and even in the final Pierre Ragues made the second best time overall.
Unfortuantely their achievements were overshadowed by the non finishes.
Pierre was tangled up with a competitor during the first heat and therefore was only 27th on the starting grid for the prefinal.
Manuel had a technical problem in the last lap of the prefinal when he was on 9th position and had to start from place 26 in the final.
However these matters could not stop the drivers to deliver an amazing final for the spectators with a lot of interesting overtakings. Finally they passed the finishing line on position 8 and 9.
