Under hot weather conditions the third heat of the European Championship Formula A and the final of category ICA was taking place in the south of Italy, at Muro Leccese.
In category Formula A the 3 Swiss Hutless drivers Alban Varutti, Manuel Renaudie and James Miller achieved to go directly into the main final, due to top ten qualifications in 2 of 3 heats and despite of having some troubles during one of their heats; Alban had some bad luck during a start and got out of the track, Manu had some difficulties with the handling of his chassis and James Miller ceased one of his engines.
This meant the following starting grid for the first final: Manuel Renaudie 12, Alban Varutti 15 and James Miller 27.
All other Swiss Hutless drivers had to try their best in the second chance heat. Therefore Darren Bressaglia and Harmen Oomkens had the best starting positions to classify in the top 6, but unfortunately the luck was not their friend... Darren had to retire from the race when he was up to third place, because of a technical problem on his engine, Tomi Limmonen also did not get through due to electrical problems on his engine. Harmen Oomkens lost some important places when he was overtaking a competitor and Gianni Gazzurelli missed the final by a few places.
During the first final all three qulified Swiss Hutless drivers were able to win some positions. Manuel Renaudie came in at place 8, Alban Varutti was 10th and James Miller 25th.
Then came the second final which was an amazing race to watch. Alban Varutti had a resembly good start, managed to catch up the top six and started to fight with the top names in karting. On the last lap, last corner, Varutti was in fifth, when Cesetti and Fore in front of him got tangled up and Alban was able to pass them on the streight before the line in a photo-finish with Alban on the third place by 0,049 seconds in front of Cesetti.
Swiss Hutless congratulates Alban for this success.
Manuel Renaudie had a good start to the race and was able to win several positions, but due to racing conditions he lost some places in the last few laps. Finally he passed the line in 9th position.
James Miller was tangled up in the first corner accident.
In category ICA Michael Ryall was the only Swiss Hutless driver.
Due to an unfortunate week-end he had to start in the second chance heat at position 21. With the times only being a tenth between the top 10 drivers it was hard to come from the back to the front, but Michael was highly motivated and drove a great race. Finally he got to 8th position and missed the final for 2 positions only.
